Time is considered as one of the most important and scarce resources within and outside the family. Time use and its various dimensions have drawn the attention of researchers in different disciplines, particularly in the field of economics. How time is invested across different activities plays an important role in determining economic development. Today an unprecedented increase in female labour force participation can be noticed all over the world, and there arises the problem of double burden while combining market work and domestic chores. Time use surveys and Time use data gives a better measurement of the living standards of the people, real work burden and leisure of different groups of population. Dr. R. Ramya, currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, Sri C. Achutha Menon Government College, Thrissur. She took her P.G. in Development Economics with II Rank from the Department of Economics, Dr. John Mathai Centre, Calicut University and Ph D in Gender Economics from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. She is awarded D. Litt. (Honorary Doctorate) by the University of South America. She is empanelled as the Accredited Trainer of IMG in the areas of Gender and Women Empowerment. She has been awarded the prestigious K N Raj Fellowship for college teachers by the Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvanathapuram. She has completed a major World Bank sponsored project as part of Kerala Local Governments Service Delivery project executed through Gulathi Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT). She is also an external resource person of KILA (Kerala Institute of Local Administration) in the area of Gender. She has edited two books on Kerala Economy and her areas of specialization include Gender Economics, Micro Economics and Econometrics.
