India possesses 15 % of total cattle population as milch draught and dual purpose breeds. On milch breeds are Gir, Tharparkar, Red Sindhi, Shahiwal, Nimari and Malwi. The indigenous cows are mainly resistant to diseases but deficient in their nutritional status so suffer from many problems like long and regular inter calving intervals, diseased milk yield reduced lactation period and small sized and weak male calves.
