Riverbank Erosion A Concise And Critical Review Of Scales, Approaches, Methods And Techniques

Authors: Pankaj Roy,
Publish Date/ Year : June 2021 | Format: Paperback | Genre : Envrionmental Science | Other Book Detail

About the Book:
The book serves as a textbook for undergraduate and postgraduate students and as a reference book for college and university teachers, researchers in a wide range of disciplines such as Geography, Hydrology, Riparian Land Management, Planning and Development in general, and Fluvial Geomorphology and River Science in particular. Many books have been written in these fields, but there's dearth of a book on river bank erosion with special emphasis on methods and techniques. The students and researchers fail to find a book on this field which is comprehensive, concise, simple and addresses the issues when they struggle for formulating a research proposal with appropriate methodology. The need of a book on this field has been felt quite a long time before. Hopefully, this book fills that gap.
The Key Features of the Book:
  • The book defines many technical terms in a lucid manner which ease the understanding of the common readers, undergraduate and postgraduate students and young researchers.
  • It explores the methods and techniques used so far in fluvial geomorphology especially in bank erosion research of small to large rivers from various parts of the world.
  • It documents almost all the traditional as well as modern techniques used in riverbank erosion research for the last 150 years in book form which is first in its kind.
  • It articulates a comprehensive evaluation of the hot issue of current researches undertaken in Fluvial Geomorphology i.e., riverbank erosion.
  • The fluvial geomorphologists including researchers from allied fields have introduced and discarded many methods and techniques in riverbank erosion studies with experiments over and over again. The book provides a critical review of most of that worldwide literature.
  • It enunciates and simplifies the understanding of data acquisition, tools and techniques of riverbank erosion research as per the choice of scale and approaches.
  • It fills the long-time need of a book dealing exclusively with the issues and challenges of riverbank erosion from scale, data acquisition and methodological perspectives.
  • It encloses a comprehensive Glossary of terms commonly used in Fluvial Geomorphology and RS, GIS and GPS.

Pankaj Roy

PANKAJ ROY is a passionate Geographer and enthusiast researcher in the field of Fluvial Geomorphology. He holds PhD and Post Graduate degrees in geography. He was awarded the PhD degree for his doctoral research in riverbank erosion dynamics using Geospatial Technology (RS, GIS & GPS) as tools of analysis, from one of the premier academic institutes of India and UGC's University of Potential for Excellence i.e., North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), located at Shillong, the Scotland of the East and capital city of Meghalaya, India. He was a UGC BSR Fellow there. He is specialised in Fluvial Geomorphology and keeps keen interest on Geospatial Technology. He had also done the professional courses of Bachelor of Education and Master Diploma in Multi Language Programming (MDMLP) before opening up his mind for doctoral research. He had completed several RS & GIS training courses from IGIAT, Vizag; NRSC (ISRO), Hyderabad; IIRS (ISRO) Dehradun and ESRI, CA, USA during and after his doctoral research to acquire technical knowhow which he applied in research works and teaching as well. The flood geomorphology, hydrology, geospatial technology and its applications, digital image processing and climate change are some other areas of his interests.
