The hymenium consists of many club shaped cells of two types; of which some are fertile called basidia and other are sterile called paraphyses. From each basidium develops basidiospores. The Basidiospores remain attached withthebasidium with the help of sterigmata. The sterigmata swell as their tips and each forms a single basidiospores. Each basidiospore isa purple coloured, oval and uninucleate structure. Thus, four monokaryotic haploid basidiospores are formed in a basidium.
