Authors: Dr Mm Patil, Dr Anju Thammanna,
Format: Paperback | Genre : Medical Science | Other Book Detail

The neonates are at risk during before or immediately after birth as there is a transition from intra to extrauterine life. Neonatal mortality rates are high because of the infants' sensitivity and fragility. Twothirds of all fatalities in the first year are caused during the neonatal period. Preterm newborns are more exposed to a variety of complications related to the function and maturity of all other organs as their intrauterine life is shorter than the physiological limit. Preterm births are expected to afflict 15 million babies worldwide, primarily in low- and middle-income nations (LMIC). It directly affects the survival rate, i.e one million neonatal deaths annually are contributed by preterm neonates to childhood morbidity, which is significant both in terms of perinatal, neonatal mortality and underfive mortality risk.
