Periodontitis can be define as an inflammatory disease of the
supporting tissues of the teeth caused by specific microorganisms or a
group of specific microorganism resulting in progressive destruction
of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone with pocket formation,
recession and both.
The different avenues of periodontal therapy include nonsurgical
procedures such as meticulous plaque control, scaling and root
planning, local drug delivery system, host modulation therapy and an
array of surgical procedure including Mucogingival techniques.
Currently, periodontal surgery is considered to be of two types pocket
therapy and mucogingival surgery. “Mucogingival surgery” is a term
that was initially introduced by Friedman in 9157, to describe surgical
procedure for the correction of relationship between the gingiva and
oral mucous membrane with reference to three specific problems
areas, attached gingiva, shallow vestibule, and frenum interfering with
the marginal gingiva
