RNA viruses are the group of pathogens, causing major threat to human health. Around 180 species of RNA viruses have been recognized around the world with about three new species, discovered every year. The harmful nature of RNA viruses is understood by their unique ability to evolve rapidly and adapt promptly within the invaded hosts. This allows the viruses to escape the host immune response and develop resistance against drugs and vaccines in the easiest and quickest manner.

Dr Ipsita Chanda

Dr Ipsita Chanda possesses an outstanding academic record. She obtained her graduation in Zoology from Presidency College, Kolkata and post-graduation from University of Calcutta. She pursued her Ph.D at Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata, a CSIR institute and was awarded doctoral degree from Jadavpur University. In her academic career, she got many national scholarship and fellowship (CSIR-UGC JRF and SRF fellowship). She has a special interest in the study of genomics of microbial organisms, specially the pathogenic microbes and has published a number of papers in different national and international journals. She is presently working as Assistant Professor of Zoology at Seth Anandram Jaipuria College, affiliated to University of Calcutta.
