The present investigation is the very first attempt to record the ethnomedicinal knowledge of village Chanch, Sult block, district Almora (Uttarakhand). The study has been reported 17 ethnomedicinal plants from 17 genera with 17 species of Angiosperms (15 dicotyledons, 88.24%; and 02 monocotyledons, 11.76%). Among families, Apiaceae (dicot) and Zingiberaceae (monocot) dominated with 2 genera and 2 species each, leaf dominated (33.33%) among the plant parts, while herbs (9 species) dominated among all the habits of ethnomedicinal plants. According to quantitative analysis, Borago officinalis showed maximum relative frequency citation (0.06) and Rhododendron arboreum exhibited highest use value (0.40). With enthusiastic sharing of ethnomedicinal plant information among the local people, this green asset can be passed on and protected among descending generations for futuristic wealth.

Dr. Shaiphali Saxena

Dr. Shaiphali Saxena is currently working as an Assistant Professor, Department of Botany at Government Post Graduate College, Kunidhar, Manila, Almora (Uttarakhand) since 2019 with 6 years of undergraduate teaching experience. She did her B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Kumaun University (Nainital). She obtained her Doctoral degree with university fellowship from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar in the same year. Then she qualified ICAR-NET in Plant Physiology in 2019. Her areas of research pursuits encompass diverse domains with Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology, Medicinal Plants, Ethnobotany, Phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy and Biodiversity Conservation. She has also actively participated in several national and international conferences, symposia and seminars. Her scholarly contributions include 10 research and review papers, 02 book chapters and a book to her credit in esteemed national and international journals under UGC-care list, SCOPUS and Web of Science indexes. She has been conferred two times with young scientist award in International Scientist Awards on Engineering, Science and Medicine in the year 2020 and 2021.

Prof. Meenakshi Sudhir Vaidya

Prof. Meenakshi Sudhir Vaidya is currently working as a Professor of Botany & Vice Principal at SVKM's Mithibai College of Arts, Chauhan Institute of Science and Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics (Empowered Autonomous), Mumbai, Maharashtra. She has total teaching experience of 35 years at UG and 32 years at PG. She is Ph. D. Guide and three students have received their degrees. Currently seven students are pursuing their Ph.D. under her guidance. She has completed her Ph.D. & M.Phil. from Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College (Autonomous), Mumbai and M.Sc. & B.Sc. from SVKM’s Mithibai College, Mumbai. She is the author of three book chapters. To her credit she has 82 research papers published. She also has 02 patent publication to her credit. She is the recipient of Icon of the Year, 2024 for Extraordinary Commitment and Exhibition of Exceptional Professionalism to her work, Incorporated in ‘Asia Pacific Who’s Who’: Vol. XIV – 2016, Recipient of the best Educationist award by International Human Rights Association on 5 th September 2016, Honored by Carolus Linnaeus Research Award - Recognized as the world’s 500 most Influential Taxonomists for the year 2015 with Fellowship & Life Membership of IASR. She is interested in the field of Plant Taxonomy, Plant Anatomy, Ethnobotany, Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Botany. Apart from academic work, she has been engaged in administrative work also.

Dr. Anubha Pandey

Dr. Anubha Pandey

Dr. Anubha Pandey is an Assistant Professor at R.V. Junior College, Titwala, Thane, Maharashtra, and teaches NEET coaching at various institutes. With 12 years of experience, she has taught at multiple colleges affiliated with Mumbai University, including a five-year tenure as an Ad-hoc faculty at K. M. Agrawal College, Kalyan. Dr. Pandey holds a PhD from Smt. C. H. M. College (Mumbai University) and has worked as a researcher in the Archaeology Department at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for four years. She was also a Research Fellow at the McDonald Institute of Archaeology, Cambridge University. Dr. Pandey has published seven research papers in UGC CARE-indexed journals including Springer and Elsevier publications and contributed chapters to scholarly books. Her research interests include Archaeology, Myxomycetes, AM fungi, Molecular Genetics, Palaeobotany, and Ethnobotany. She has received the British Council Award twice for her archaeological research and served as a Research Fellow for the DBT Foldscope Project.

Dr. Vijay Hile

Dr. Vijay K. Hile is currently serving as Vice Principal at Bhavan’s Hazarimal Somani College, Mumbai. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Botany. He has 27 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level and 6 years at the postgraduate level. Dr. Hile has published 15 research papers in international journals and successfully completed 4 research projects. He also holds one patent to his name. His areas of research interest include Environmental Science, Bryophytes, Medicinal plants and Ethnobotany.
