Brucellosis, also known as "undulant fever", "Mediterranean fever" or "Malta fever", is a zoonotic infection that under certain circumstances can be transmitted to humans (1). It is one of the most widespread zoonosis worldwide (2) with over half a million new cases annually and the prevalence rate in some countries exceeds ten cases per 100,000 population, being higher in people working in organized farms. Brucellosis has high morbidity both for humans and animals; it is an important cause of economic loss and a public health problem in many developing countries (3).
