Adverse drug reactions The World Health Organization has put forth the definition of ADR as “any response to a drug which is noxious and unintended, and which occurs at doses used in man for prophylaxis, diagnosis or treatment.” In other words, an ADR could be an unexpected or unwanted effect that is a direct extension of the mechanism of drug action; in an organ system that is not the target of drug therapy; an allergic response; a hypersensitive response; an idiosyncratic response; or a drug interaction with unexpected results.

Dr.Karthikeyan M. is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology at Ashokrao Mane College of Pharmacy, Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He obtained his D.Pharm from Directorate of Medical Education, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, D.S.M from Siddha Research Institute, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, B.Pharm from The Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR Medical University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, M.Pharm from SRM University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Ph.D. in Pharmacology f rom Singhania University, Rajasthan. After M.Pharm he started his teaching career as lecturer at Malik Deenar College of Pharmacy, Kasargod, Kerala, later he joined as a senior lecturer, promoted as an assistant professor and Associate Professor at Al Shifa College of Pharmacy, Malappuram, Kerala, later he joined as Associate Professor at Ahalia School of Pharmacy, Palakkad,Kerala, later he joined as Professor at SVERI College of Pharmacy, Maharashtra. He has 14 years of teaching and research experience. He has guided B.Pharm, M.Pharm, and Pharm.D students. His area of interest is in drug discovery from natural products for cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory diseases, and cancer. He has published 49 research and review articles in national and international journals. He has published 3 books and a book chapter. He has presented papers in various national conferences. He served as joint secretary for the Pharmaceutical and Biological Society, India. He is a member of the Indian Hospital Pharmacist Association (IHPA), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), USA, Asian Pacific Association of Medical Editors(APAME), and Science Advisory Board(SAB). He served as editor for various national and International Journals. He received the South Indian ASDF best circuit faculty awards in 2018. He has organized workshops in animal handling and national level conferences. He had received grants from the Indian Council of Medical Research and Kerala State Council for Science, Technology, and Environment.
