Calamus LeptospadiX: An Ethnomedicinal Antidiabetic Plant Of Assam

Methods: Oral ED of the methanolic extract of aerial part of Calamus 50 leptospadix (MECL) dose was found out to be 2500mg/kg. Oral glucose tolerance test level was measured at 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 mins after the administration of the extract. The extract was orally administered once daily in a dose dependent manner at two dose levels of 250 and 500mg/kg for 15 days to STZ+Nicotinamide induced diabetic rats. The effect of MECL on body weights, blood glucose levels and biochemical parameters were measured using auto analyzer. Histopathology of pancreas and in-vivo antioxidant effect was studied in liver.

Dr. Sudarshana Borah

Dr. Sudarshana Borah, Assistant Professor, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), have completed her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, from Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dibrugarh University under the supervision of Dr. Hemanta Kumar Sharma. She has GPAT qualification and also received National Doctoral Fellowship Award as CSIR- Senior Research Fellowship (New Delhi) during her Ph.D. research. She has received the INTERNATIONAL YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD, 2019 on the 5th International Young Scientist Congress, organized by International Science Community Association, at Mid-Western University, Surkhet, Nepal. Dr. Borah is a Lifetime member of International Science Community Association and Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers’ of India. She has also guided students in their research activities in different projects. Dr. Borah has 26 paper publications in journals both National and International, 2 Book Chapters, 2 National awards, 2 International awards and 2 Fellowship awards, and she looks ahead to further carry forward her research activities on ethnomedicinal plants of Northeast India.

Dr. Priyanka Shankarishan

Dr. Priyanka Shankarishan, Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Biology, School of Biological Sciences, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) have completed her Ph.D in Biotechnology from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), N.E. Region, Dibrugarh, registered under Gauhati University. She has been awarded “ICMR Senior Research Fellowship” awarded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, India in 2008. Dr. Shankarishan has completed her Post Graduation in Biotechnology from Gauhati University. She has more than 13 nos of research publications in both national and international journals of repute and has presented several papers in international conferences. Dr. Shankarishan has 2 Book Chapters, 1 Edited Book, 1 Young Researcher Award and 1 Fellowship Award.

Dr. Bibhuti Bhusan Kakoti, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dibrugarh University have completed his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, from Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Jadavpur University and Post Doctoral Studies from University of South Florida (Health) USA. Dr. Kakoti’s area of specialization is Pharmacology (Screening and Evaluation of Plant/Synthetic Drugs). He has received research funds from AICTE (RPS), UGC (MRP), Life Sciences Research Board (DRDO), DST-SERB and including DBT-NE Twinning Project. Dr. Kakoti has guided many students at their B. Pharm, M. Pharm and Ph.D. level. He has 37 paper publications in journals National and International, 1 Book Chapter and 1 Book.
