Availability of quality feed and scientific feeding of is of pivotal significance for optimizing livestock health and production. Good quality feed ingredient should refer to the ingredient, which possess the excellence of its nutrient value in terms of both chemical composition and its efficiency of utilization. The quality of feed ingredients determines the quality of compounded feeds or finished products which are meant for feeding of livestock. Therefore, it is essential to have a standard for every feed ingredient including the feed supplements and additives. Quality begins with a balanced ration prepared by a qualified nutritionist that meets the target species nutritional requirements. While under formulating a ration will reduce animal performance and is an obvious quality deficiency, over formulation also falls short of quality definition since it results in a loss of revenue to the feed manufacturer and may increase pollution of the environment by lost nutrients in animal waste. The characteristics of quality are numerous within the context of animal feed formulation and manufacturing. These are measured using quality control techniques designed to evaluate the ingredients processing and finished product.
